This looks like a good book to engage the reader in creating. It encompasses many of Leonardo's greatest inventions from the armored tank to the helicopter. Using reproductions of his sketches, this book gives step-by-step instructions in order to create models based on his inventions. It also provides insight into life during the Renaissance era and has tidbits of "Leo" trivia along the way. The illustrations are very well done, the writing and directions are clear and easy to understand and all the materials used in the models are based on everyday household items.
This book would be used as a supplemental book in my da Vinci collection. Even though it is geared for a younger age, students could use this book as a starting point if they had to do an activity on Leonardo da Vinci's inventions. The older student would obviously be able to create a more sophisticated product.
This is a small, witty compilation of stories and jokes that Leonardo da Vinci often told to his patrons and models while he worked. Apparently, Leonardo was quite the storyteller and would write jokes and jests down in his notebooks. Edgar Bryce-Smythe has updated these delightful tales and put them in today's langauge for readers of all ages. The language may be different but the jokes are timeless.
This would just be a fun book to have in my Leo collection. I think that students would find it refreshing that our resident Renaissace genius also had a great sense of humor as well!
